Lagos is the town of the Algarve with the oldest historical record.

Since all time, this town has been the stopover of the commerce between the Mediterranean and the rest of Europe. Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors, battled for dominance of their influence on this stopping.

Until the 1755 earthquake, which destroyed almost the entire city, Lagos was Algarve district capital, been temporary moved the administrative center of the Algarve to Silves, expecting after reconstruction, Lagos would regain his title as capital. This did not happen, having been chosen Faro city to old such title. Title that is held up till our days.

As a safe harbor, Lagos was the scene of many adventures not only commercial and maritime logistics and military.
Nowadays, Lagos is the town of the Algarve best overall offer.

With a calm coast and its bay, it is a geographical beauty above the rest. Lagos presents itself to contemporary tourism as the best logistics base for exploring the Algarve.
