Olhão

The town of Olhão reserve us a pleasant surprise if we seek the essence of Algarve. It is of note that the Algarve, especially on the south coast, is full of attractions, both cultural, leisure and entertainment. Olhão did not sell it self to the left-century industry, tourism, and despite being the largest fishing port in the Algarve, its entire culture revolves around the sea.

The development of Olhão only happened in the 19th century with the fishing industry and its logistics, because until then, Olhão was no more than a cluster of huts without any type of infrastructure.

The council of Olhão is 130 Km² and has approximately 41,000 inhabitants and the city, capital of the Council, is 10 km away from Faro Airport.

Apparently, the city of Olhão despite being on the coast, has no beach, we have to catch the ferry that takes us to the outer barrier islands of sand banks that constitute the Natural Park of the Ria Formosa and stretching from Faro to Tavira.

The most popular of Olhão islands is the island of Armona.
